Is there a way to resolve Alistair's personal quest in Origins without having to be an absolute jerkface?

The dialogue options seem to give you the choice between being nice to Alistair or being mean to Alistair:

"How dare you speak that way to my boyfriend your future king, vile harlot!"
or
"Gee, Alistair, pity you had to come all this way to find out your sister is a total bitch, LOL."

There's no real way that I could find to be even moderately nice to Goldanna. I tried to pick a third option whenever I could, but it didn't really work. My Brosca should have a bit more compassion for someone who's just trying to make sure her children get fed; she knows what it's like to go hungry!

Let's hope those fifteen sovereigns go some way towards compensating Goldanna for having to talk to such a pair of jerks.

There's not a better way to address Goldanna, no. And the choices for Alistair give you the option of trying to make him into sturdier stuff, "hardening" him so that he feels more interested in replacing Cailan. If you don't, he continues to be skittish about the whole idea.

(Late comment.) No, I haven't discovered any, but thank you for making this post! There's a peculiar inflexibility in certain scenarios in Dragon Age, which are supposed to be such choice based games, when suddenly the responses clamp down to a couple different approaches to basically the exact same viewpoint. It's frustrating.
